Five Offline RPGs Worth Your Storage Space

Five Offline RPGs Worth Your Storage Space

July 4, 2026 · Markus Feldmann

Offline RPGs are getting genuinely good, and I've spent the last month rotating through a handful. The best ones treat your phone like a proper handheld rather than a slot machine for your attention.

Ember of Thanor sits at the top for me. Turn-based combat that rewards planning, a story that actually lands, and everything stored locally. It's the one I keep going back to on flights.

What I look for in an offline RPG is a save system that never fails and a battle system deep enough to think about. Anything that pauses to phone home mid-dungeon gets deleted fast.

If you've only got room for one, download something with a clear job for each party member. Those are the games that stay interesting past the first ten hours.
